Telugu is one the the ancient languages of India, mostly spoken in South Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. It is the second most commonly spoken language of India. It is a very lyrical language and heavily influenced by Sanskrit in its vocabulary, although gramatically Telugu is closely related to other South Indian languages, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam.

Telugu Literature
Although
Telugu is one of the ancient languages of South India, early verses are known only
from inscriptions. The first Telugu text is a translation of the Mahabharata by
Nannaya (1018-1061), known as the Adikavi (first
poet) of Telugu literature. Vemualawada Bhimakavi (1078-1148) is the author of Kavijanasraya, grammar of Telugu, and Bhimeswarapuranamu relating to the
legends of the shrine of Bhimesvara at Draksharamam in East Godavari District of Andhra Pradesh. Telugu literature
represents a middle path in which translations of major Sanskrit texts into Telugu coexisted with Telugu literature based on local mythologies immensely enriching the culture of Andhra
Pradesh, now divided into Andhra Pradesh and Telangana States in 2014.
